Course Goals:This course is intended to instruct the professional through a self-paced study of Cardiopulmonary Assessment in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy.

Professional Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss important considerations related to cardiopulmonary diagnostic test and procedures.
  2. Differentiate between the important considerations for diagnostic stress testing and exercise testing.
  3. Discuss arterial blood gases.
  4. Explain the twelve-lead electrocardiogram.
  5. Identify symptoms and complaints associated with myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction and pericarditis.
  6. Discus common patient complaints and possible causes and differentiate features associated with cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases.
  7. Explain the three risk categories recommended by the American College of Sports Medicine and identify the classification of each.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of the relative contraindications to exercise or the need for additional caution associated with cardiovascular and pulmonary diagnosis.
  9. List clinical manifestations of respiratory distress.
