Course Goals:This course is intended to instruct the professional through a self-paced study of Pulmonology in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy.

Professional Learning Objectives

  1. List the primary muscles of inspiration.
  2. Identify the structures and cells that serve as protection to the lungs from inhaled organisms and particles.
  3. Discuss the factors affecting respiratory function.
  4. Explain lung volumes and capacities.
  5. Discuss the affects of normal aging on pulmonary function.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge in the signs and symptoms of pulmonary disease.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge in pulmonary function test and how they provide helpful information to the therapist in establishing realistic treatment goals and an appropriate treatment plan according to the patient’s current pulmonary problems and degree of impairment.
  8. Define vital capacity.
  9. Explain the importance analyzing arterial blood gases.
  10. Discuss exercise testing.
  11. Demonstrate knowledge in the importance of implementing fluoroscopy.
  12. Differentiate between single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET).
